2010 E.F.Benson Society Silver Jubilee Year Calendar Thursday, May 20th 7pm AGM Venue: Grosvenor Chapel, South Audley Street, London, W1 ( entrance to left at back of Chapel ) The AGM will be followed by a Talk given by Keith Cavers A Meeting of the Chit Chat Club - Cambridge In this Talk Keith will be treating the talk as though everyone was at a club meeting. This club was the famous discussion club to which all three Benson brothers belonged during their time at the University. All of them left their mark. The cost of the refreshements after the AGM, which includes the room hire is £15/person. Saturday, July 24th Marking Fred 143rd birthday, as well as the Society's Silver Jubilee, the Society will be holding a Concert of Words and Music in aid of the Restoration Appeal for the Benson West Window, designed and donated to the Church by Fred Benson and dedicated in 1937. The Society's members have already given £1,300 to the Appeal, and in this Concert all ticket monies are being given to the project. There will be professional Opera singers and readers from the Society. The soprano is appearing as Olga Bracely. The music will be drawn from Fred's taste, Wagner to Grainger, as well as music that the Benson family heard and liked. The Appeal is being organised by the Friends of St Mary's and tickets for the Concert can be either bought from St Mary's Church, Martello Bookshop, 26, High Street, Rye, TN31 7JF, The Rye TIC, 4, Lion Street, Rye or the Society. The tickets are £10 unreserved or £15 reserved. The Concert begins at 8pm For members there are Drinks at Lamb House, 6.30 - 7.30, and then a buffet supper afterwards at Fletcher's House. These events have to be booked by members and there is a charge for both events. For more information contact the Secretary. Wednesday, November 10th Silver Jubilee Dinner, in the Members' Dining Room, Guildhall, after the the Society has attended Choral Evensong at St Paul's Cathedral. Evensong begins at 5pm, but members have to be seated in allocated seats by 4.45pm. Dinner will be at 7pm. Details will be sent to members in September with booking arrangements.
